Homemade Sweet and Sour Meatballs

A couple of weeks ago my mom and I decided to make homemade sweet and sour meatballs with some of the ground venison from last season, and the homemade Concord grape jelly from this summer. You can make this recipe with prepackaged meatballs, or with a recipe of your own.

Sweet and Sour Meatballs
For the sauce:
1 bottle chili sauce
1 jar grape jelly, a recipe for homemade concord grape jelly can be found here
1 cup water

For the meatballs:
1.5 lb ground meat (we use 50/50 venison and pork, but any combo of beef/pork/veal would work well too)
2 eggs 
1 cup bread crumbs
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese 
1/2 cup water
2 tables spoons Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
Pepper to taste


1. Combine ingredients for sauce in a medium pot over medium heat. Stir until well combined and warmed throughout.

2. Mix ingredients or meatballs and drop one inch balls into a heated and oiled pan. If you're using premade meatballs, brown them in the pan as well.



3. Brown meatballs on all sides then add to the cooking sweet and sour sauce. Simmer until cooked through, approximately 20 minutes.
